Number of Covid-19 infections in 24 hours hits highest in 9 months

As many as 34 people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours, an official of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The total number of deaths has now reached 8,797 and the death rate stands at 1.51 percent.

At least 3,587 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 5,84,395, added the release.

This is the highest number of infections recorded in the span of a day in the last nine months. On July 2 last year, the infection number was 4,019.

The current positivity rate is 13.26 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 12.94 percent.

A total of 27,045 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am today).

At least 1,985 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,29,894 and the recovery rate at 90.67 percent.

Among the 34 deceased, 25 were men and nine women while one was between 11-20 years old, one within 21-30, two between 31-40, one within 41-50, 11 within 51-60 and 18 were above 60 years old, added the release.
