Renowned danseuse & TV actor Zeenat Barkatullah waging a grim battle, on life support

Renowned danseuse Zeenat Barkatullah, who has been put on ventilator support in the ICU at a private hospital in Dhaka on Saturday, still continues to fight a grim battle against death.

The artiste, who was admitted to the hospital in December 22, had tested negative for Covid-19, but her health conditions continued to deteriorate due to old-age related symptoms.

Her daughter, actress Bijori Barkatullah has earlier through a social media post revealed the news of her mother being shifted to a hospital

In the post, she said: “My mother Zinnat Barkatullah is in the ICU ventilation with a critical condition. I ask everyone to pray for my mother. Almighty Allah Rahmanur Rahim has mercy on my mother and heals her pain.”

Zeenat Barkatullah, who had contracted coronavirus in July alongside her husband Mohammad Barkatullah, also a renowned TV personality, who died on August 3.

 She, however, recovered but had to return to the hospital due to various old-age complications.

Meanwhile, Minu Haque, president of the Bangladesh Dance Association Although expressed her concern over the dancer’s health condition.

She said though the artiste was infected with the coronavirus but soon recovered.
According to Bijri Barkatullah’s husband, actor Intekhab Dinar, she was suffering from pneumonia when she was put on life support.
The artiste played a vital role in the development of dance in the cultural movement of Bangladesh.

According to Mahfuzur Rahman, general secretary of Nrityashilpi Sangstha, the journey of Barkatullah as a dancer started in the seventies.

She was expert in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri. Later she made folk dance as the path of her life.

In her illustrious career, Barkatullah has worn many hats. She is still serving as the director of the Production Department as well as the Dance and Music departments at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy since 2002.

The artiste made her mark as TV actor in more than 80 dramas.
In recognition to her contributions to the field of dance and acting, she has received prestigious awards such as UNESCO award, Natya Shabha Award, BACHSAS Award and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award.
