In accordance with her plan to modernise border forces for effective management of the frontier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to gear up to meet the challenges of changing times.
BGB has adopted ‘BGB Vision 2041’ plan to transform it as a world-class modern three-dimensional border guard force.
A BGB source on Wednesday said modern Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) and Riot Control Vehicles have been introduced to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), which would enhance operational capacity of the force.
“As instructed by our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we’re striving towards actualizing ‘BGB Vision 2041’ plan to build the BGB as a world-class modern three-dimensional border guard force. It’s essential to meet the challenges of the 21st century,” he told Dhaka Tribune.
As part of the long-term policy to strengthen and modernise Border Guard Bangladesh, the experts have prepared a blueprint to give shape to the PM’s vision.
BGB director general Major General Abul Hossain revealed the plan.
He said the force is constantly working to evolve as modern and time-befitting unit to face the new challenges.
He further said three new sectors at Ali Kadam, Naogaon and Jessore, eight battalions at Navaran, Meherpur, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Madak, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Kulaura and four reserve battalions are coming up soon.
The official also said a total of 225 border outposts would be built as part of a plan of setting up minimum one BOP in five kilometres while there is another plan to form two riverine battalions at Nildumur and Teknaf to check smuggling.
Giving further details, Hossain said the government has agreed in principle to recruit 15,000 more personnel for the frontier force to reduce manpower shortage.
He also indicated that air wing of BGB will be built soon.
PM Sheikh Hasina asked the force to instal air wing at Baitul Izzat and Satkania.
A plot has been purchased for setting the air wing while measures are going on to purchase the rest of the land and helicopters to this end.
